KS1 reading comprehension about Handa’s Surprise. I have used this during a unit of work on Handa’s Surprise and also as part of guided reading sessions

Adapted from the book - this text was used in the innovation stage of the english unit - aimed at Year 2 but this could be easily adapted for another year group

This was a non fiction unit based on a trip to the local beach. In this bundle I have included a print out of the text, a powerpoint and also a reading comprehension linked to the text. I have included lots of common exception words in the text to support spelling assessment.

Great alternative to writing shape poetry for fireworks. The children then wrote riddles about items found during bonfire night too.

List of books to support the teaching of alliteration

A unit of work based on teaching the ee sound. Ideas for what children can hear, see, smell, do taste etc. Also included are ideas for songs and stories linked to the sound.

Planning tree where the roots are used to put the learning objectives for the unit and branches are the activities. A lovely way to plan and share your medium term plans with the children.

Word mat to support vocabulary from the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and to help children with their independent learning.

I have created this intervention for KS1 classes for a group intervention. This is designed for children who have gaps in Phase 3 spelling skills. Look out for my Phase 5 version too! This is a whole terms intervention and I have seen amazing results from using these plans with small groups of children. I suggest doing a phase 3 spelling test and then picking the plans suited to the group to tailor the intervention.
